Bonding with Bots | The Art + Science of Human-Robot Interaction

xREZ Art + Science Lab is officially a designated host for the Leonardo/ISAST LASER series!

xREZ Lab hosted its first LASER event on Oct. 6, 2016! The event focused on themes surrounding robotics and human-robot interaction. The inaugural LASER held at The Forum at Willis Library was moderated by xREZ Art + Science Lab Director Ruth West with presentations by interdisciplinary roboticists including: Assistant Professor of Theatre, Social Robotics and Performance Julienne Greer, Director of the NanoTech Institute at the University of Texas at Dallas Ray Baughman, and the Director of Content at RoboKind Justin Holder.

About the Speakers:

Julienne Greer is an Assistant Professor of Theatre, Social Robotics and Performance at the University of Texas at Arlington and a multi-disciplinary scholar-artist who produces, directs, performs and writes in the theatre, robotics, cinema, humanities, and game studies disciplines. In 2014, Greer presented her paper, “Building emotional authenticity between humans and robots” at the International Conference for Social Robotics in Sydney, Australia. Learn more about Julienne: https://www.uta.edu/profiles/julienne-greer

Ray Baughman is a Robert A. Welch Professor of Chemistry and current director of the NanoTech Institute at the University of Texas at Dallas. In 2008, Baughman was ranked one of the top 100 high-impact materials scientists by Thomson Reuters and continues to grow with 76 U.S. patents and over 400 publications. Learn more about Ray: https://www.utdallas.edu/chairs/profiles/baughman.html

Justin Holder is the Director of Content at RoboKind, a company designing advanced social robots with life-like facial expressions and social interactions to supplement autism therapy, special education and STEM instruction.
