ATLAS at NAS – about NAFKI conference

ABOUT THE NAKFI CONFERENCE

For three days beginning November 12, more than 140 creative practitioners from the fields of art, design, communications, science, engineering and medicine will come together for an international “think-tank” to address urgent, global issues such as the impact of technological advancements on physical intuition and the creative process; harnessing the world brain to address urgent global issues, and creating human-centered cultures with human-centered technologies. From the moment conference attendees arrive at the Beckman Center, they will be exposed to the Creative Disruption installations – created to define the space as a place where something special will happen.  “I am thrilled to be a part of this incredible group!” says xREZ Director Ruth West. “These happenings, both virtual and real, will interrupt the usual or expected flow of the think-tank to foster creative problem solving, collaboration, and innovation.”

For the first time this year, NAKFI is inviting the public into the conversation by hosting the Creative Disruptions exhibit in collaboration with Distinctive Voices @ the Beckman Center.  The goals are to engage the global brain power and spark the human curiosity necessary to forge new paths of discovery at the most exciting frontiers.  Be the first to join us as we begin to explore how a pluralism of perspectives can chart a path toward accelerating innovation on our most urgent challenges, such as bioterrorism, epidemics, regional drought, climate change, infrastructure collapse, and humanitarian crises.

The exhibition’s creative practitioners include: Brandon Ballengée; Phillip Beesley; Niccolò Casas; David Edwards, Rachel Field, and Don Zereski; Ken Goldberg; Dan Goods and David Delgado; Andrea Polli; and Ruth West, Todd Margolis, Joachim Gossmann, Alex S. Horn, JP Lewis, Rajvikram Singh, Jurgen Schulze, Samuel B. Johnson, I-Chen Yeh, Iman Mostafavi, Ben Hackbarth, Weizhong Li, Trevor Henthorn, Javier I. Girardo, Andrew Prudhomme.

This event is organized in collaboration with Distinctive Voices and the Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences.
