In celebration of its second anniversary at UNT, xREZ Art + Science Lab hosted the spring meeting of the TxHATS (TexasHATS.org) Network followed by an Art + Science Evening Rendezvous to engage the community in talking about the combination of art and science.
The Art + Science Evening Rendezvous event held Mar. 30, 2016 at the UNT Union ballroom was moderated by JD Talasek, director of Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences, with presentations by Dallas-Ft. Worth practitioners including computational artist Ira Greenberg, Make Art with Purpose founder Janeil Engelstad, UNT physics professor and data-musician Marco Buongiorno Nardelli, and xREZ Art + Science Lab Director, artist-scientist Ruth West.
The event included an introductory presentation by Talasek with audience participation and requests for collaboration from attendees, presentations by each of the speakers about their hybrid work, and a Q&A with the audience.
The evening Rendezvous was sponsored by the UNT Office of Research & Economic Development, the UNT College of Visual Art & Design, and the UNT Department of Design, with community partners Dallas Contemporary museum, Business Council for the Arts, and Debbie & Charles Stafford.
